With school back in session, our children’s well being is on everyone’s mind. You and your child might benefit from taking a look at this TedX Talk, “Growing Up Stressed or Growing Up Mindful”, by Christopher Willard to learn how simple mindfulness exercises not only physically change our brain for the better, but also help our response to stress.
After watching the video, ask your child to take a minute to think about and reflect on the following questions:
- Did any of the points he spoke about resonate with you?
- How do you feel when you are stressed? Does your mind go to the future or to the past? How can being mindful and present help you?
- How are you going to remember the STOP metaphor? (Stop, Take a Breath, Observe, Plan/Proceed)

As we wrap up an unconventional but successful summer, we’re reminded once again of how lucky we are to have such a generous, kind, and caring community.
