News from the Community Center – June 25, 2020

We’re adding even more group ex classes
Our outdoor group ex classes have been a hit! The fresh air and abundance of space on the patio have been a great opportunity for so many of our members to come back and enjoy the Center. This week we introduced a small number of indoor classes with social distancing clearly marked and thorough sanitizing before and after.  Next week we’re adding cardio craze, pound, and more spin.

Reminder if you’re joining us in person:
Please remember to sign the assumption of risk, bring a mask, and bring your own mat. Our instructors can’t wait to see you soon!

These last few months have been heavy. It’s time for our kiddos to have some good, plain fun, and for our families to get a little more help. We’re here for you! Registration is open for the following half-day summer camps at the Center:

  • July 6-10: Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre and Soccer Shots
  • July 13-17: Mad Science Red Hot Robots and Soccer Shots

Registration is now open for the following pickleball classes from July 9 -20 on the flex court:

In addition, we are happy to share that the flex court behind the Community Center is now open. While this is a public court, signage has been posted that it is reserved for Community Center Pickleball Members only on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays from 9:00–11:00 a.m. Please be advised that, for health and safety reasons, the Community Center will not be providing any nets or equipment. Thank you for your membership!

From the Fox Chapel Area High School Counseling Department:

This week’s advice is simply to take a pause. Allow yourself a minute to stop and make space for yourself so that when you do respond it is thoughtful and accurately reflects what you want to say.

Try to “Practice the Pause”, an exercise from Mindfulness & Positive Psychology Coach, Cindy Goldberg: Pause before answering, responding, interrupting, getting upset, or being impatient. Pause and give yourself time to take a breath, collect your thoughts or make space for another person. You will find that when you pause, you allow yourself to respond rather than to react.

We will be closed Saturday, July 4, in observation of Independence Day. We will reopen on Sunday, July 5 with our usual hours of 9am-3pm.

In the meantime, please be safe, be well, and take care of each other. As always, let us know if you have questions or ideas at We love hearing from you!
