Frequently Asked Questions
Will our community center be closed during this remodel?
The Dunlap Gymnasium, Robert and Irene Bozzone Fitness Track, fitness center, and the James and Sharon C. Rohr Family Cafe will not be available for use during the remodel. A modified group exercise schedule will be released for that week, including virtual classes. Spin classes will be offered in the Nancy Ann Taylor Dance Studio. Strength, mat, and SilverSneakers classes will be offered in the Alexander Family Community Room. Stay tuned for the schedule. Due to extreme heat, inclement weather, and the need to limit patron capacity because of restricted restroom facilities, the Scott Family Patio will not be used for group exercise during this time.
How much does this project cost, and how is it being paid for?
This upgrade is a $250,000 project. Careful investment and financial diligence of fitness member dues over the last decade enabled this project to be completed.
Will fitness members receive a refund for the week of August 15-22 if they do not participate in group-exercise classes?
Because fitness member rates have remained unchanged for the past 3 years, and the project will enhance fitness facilities, refunds will not be issued.
Why will the Dunlap Gymnasium be unavailable for use?
As a precaution from the expected fumes from painting and floor installation in the adjacent space, the need to store items usually kept in the fitness center, and due to the limited restroom facilities, the Dunlap Gymnasium will not be available for use during the week of August 15 – 22.
Will any equipment be available for independent activities by fitness members?
During the project, only supervised group exercise classes will be available.
What is happening to the equipment in the fitness center during the project?
All of the equipment is being moved to the common areas of the Center, restricting access to the restroom facilities and creating a liability issue for patrons, necessitating closure of the main areas of the Center. Only a limited number of items will be stored in the Dunlap Gymnasium to preserve the integrity of the flooring. For patrons participating in the group-exercise classes, access will be available through the side door by the Nancy Ann Taylor Dance Studio (spin classes) or through the doors on the Scott Family Patio for classes held in the Alexander Family Community Room.
What are the logistical limitations on rearranging all of the equipment in the fitness center?
The electrical boxes that house all of the wiring for the cardio machines cannot be moved, requiring the cardio equipment to remain in its current location. Additionally, there are support poles in the middle of the strength training area that causes restrictions on where equipment can be placed.
Why not replace all of the mirrors rather than adding to them?
Because of how the mirrors were originally installed, removing them may cause significant damage that requires not only additional work, but also time, to this project.
When will the other cardio equipment be replaced?
The AMTs, Ellipticals, the Peloton Bike, and Stair Climber are scheduled to be replaced in 2027. Leadership has thoughtfully planned a replacement schedule through 2033, helping us balance major purchases while ensuring you always have access to up-to-date, reliable equipment.
Why are we adding a Ski Erg to our equipment?
A Ski Erg is one of the most requested items. Due to space limitations in the fitness center, it will be housed on the track. It is on a stand, allowing it be repositioned or moved in the future.
Is any of the old equipment available for purchase?
No. All of the equipment that is being replaced has been traded in and subsequently sold. We cannot hold anything back.
