As we celebrate our 10-year anniversary, the Lauri Ann West Community Center is stronger than ever. What started as a hopeful idea has grown into a vibrant community hub and true neighborhood asset – now supporting more than 4,000 active fitness members, a state-certified after-school program in high demand, and a welcoming gathering place with more than 130,000 visitors each year. Thanks to strong community support and careful planning, we are financially stable and able to maintain our facilities that bring people together for activity, learning, and connections.

Spend enough time in the Fox Chapel Area, and you are bound to meet Ginny Merchant! Ginny generously shares her time and resources with many area organizations and individuals. Ginny’s giving spirit shines from the inside – and usually shows up on the outside in her fancy shoes and vibrantly colored outfits.
We are humbled to share that Ginny has recently made a leadership-level gift to Lauri Ann West Community Center.
Ginny’s interest in our community center began when she saw the positive impact the Center has by offering experiences and activities that individuals of all ages can enjoy. She loves how this space unites everyone to create memories together.
We extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to Ginny for sharing her generosity not only with us but also for the benefit of the whole community.

Over eighty neighbors joined us on Wednesday, July 29 to listen to Michael Berkey who invited Cory Efremenko to collaborate with Benj Spencer opening. 🎶
The Scott Family Patio crowd hummed along with covers of popular songs as well as originals from Michael and his upcoming album.

Join us in wishing these team members a Happy Birthday this month!
As part of STEAM Week, across Monday and Tuesday, Blue Room campers participated in two "Civil Engineering Challenges." They discussed how civil engineers are essentially professional problem solvers for infrastructure projects.
On Monday, campers had to create a 2 ft bridge connecting two chairs (Hardhats included!). Mr. K and Ms. Laney judged each bridge based on its ability to have toy vehicles of three different weights successfully cross as well as the bridge’s overall appearance.

We are so pleased to spotlight Lulu Barajas as our July Member of the Month!
Lulu has been coming to Lauri Ann West Community Center for three years now. She takes a variety of our group exercise classes, but her favorite is dancing. You might also see Lulu doing one-on-one training with Cassie in the fitness center!
When asked why she likes coming to Lauri Ann West Community Center, Lulu shared that all of the people here are happy and kind. When she comes here, she feels community, and feels good.
Lulu also makes us feel good! Bob, who works at the welcome desk, was one of many to praise Lulu, saying, "She`s one of our best members".

Drop off your gently used LEGOS here now until August 9. In doing so, you`ll be supporting our friends at @stem.explorers.initiative, a student-led organization working with @homelessfund412, that helps the next generation explore, experiment, and discover.
Last week`s Summer Campers learned about Space and Flight!
Among the beautiful arts and crafts projects and DIY stomp rockets, we also had a visit from Officer Maria Sciacca, who introduced our campers to the exciting world of police drones. Campers learned firsthand how drones operate using many of the same flight principles as aircraft and spacecraft. Through engaging demonstrations and hands-on discussions, they discovered how drones are used in law enforcement to assist with search and rescue, investigations, and keeping our communities safe.
