IRA Charitable Rollover or Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

Make a difference in our community and save on taxes when you support The Lauri Ann West Community Center through your IRA.

How does an IRA Charitable Rollover, also known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) work?

If you are 70 ½ years old or older, you can make tax-deductible donations each year from your IRA to qualified charities, without paying income taxes.

If you are age 73, you can use your gift to satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD).   RMDs distributed as a donation are not taxable income.

QCD limit increased to $108,000 in 2025 (per person).  Married/filing jointly can direct $216,000 as fully tax-deductible charitable giving

If you would like to make a gift from your IRA, please reach out to Shannon Smith at ssmith@lauriannwestcc.org or call 412-828-8566, ext. 112. The Lauri Ann West Community Center is an approved Educational Improvement Organization under the Education Improvement Tax Credit program offered through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. EITC enables individuals and businesses to make donations to non-profit educational organizations approved by the Commonwealth. EITC is a statewide initiative enacted by the DCED in 2001 and enables Pennsylvania residents and businesses to apply credits against their tax liability for the tax year in which they make a contribution to support students and education in the Commonwealth. The dollars you or your company would have paid in taxes will instead provide funding to support S.T.E.A.M. education programming for children at the Community Center. Visit Pennsylvania’s EITC site, which is provided above, for more information or to apply for tax credits.

Many corporations offer their employees the benefit of matching the personal philanthropy of their employees. Please check with your employer to see if you are eligible. Typically, employers will provide a matching gift form that you complete and send with your gift. This program can double your gift and provide extra benefit to the Center at no extra cost to you.

Designate your United Way donation to the Lauri Ann West Community Center by using our donor designation number: 1203.

Your contributions provide scholarships, offer SilverSneakers, expand our community outreach, hire and retain expert instructors, and upkeep the facility and make improvements.  Membership revenue and O’Hara Township support fall short of meeting all of the areas of need.

Your generosity makes a difference.  Join us by sustaining a safe place for all to learn, grow, and play by making a gift today.

With the generous donations received in 2025:

Scholarships

More than $55,000 in scholarships were provided to individuals and families. This allowed them to participate in programs, summer camps, our after school program, or utilize the fitness center.

Summer Camps

Over 220 different kids were able to connect, learn and play in our summer camps. We expect at least that many will attend in 2026!

Sue Golier Memorial Speaker Series

Three engaging speakers educated and entertained our community in 2025. More free Sue Golier Memorial Speaker Series lectures are scheduled in 2026.

A&E Arts & Enrichment After School Program

More than 90 kids participated in the A&E Arts and Enrichment After-School Program.  Transportation directly from the four FCASD elementary schools is provided.

Senior Classes

Over 200 different senior patrons filled 6,000 plus spots in our SilverSneakers classes.  For those who cannot attend in person, a virtual option is offered, allowing an additional 40 people to participate in 650 class slots.

Programs

150 plus wellness, growth, and discovery programs were offered at the Center in 2025 for everyone age 3 and above. We are able to expand our program offerings in 2026, while keeping costs competitive.

Community Events

Family friendly community events such as Unity in the Community, Trunk or Treat, and Breakfast with Santa will continue.  Music on the patio during the summer will again be offered.  Stay tuned for new opportunities to connect with our neighbors.

Community Partners

Supporting our partners in the community by participating in the Allegheny RiverTrail
Park’s Rec Day, hosting a class at the FCASD’s staff wellness day, and supporting the Fox Chapel and O’Hara 5K and Family Fun Run are a couple of the activities we enjoyed outside of the building this year.

Your ideas for additional ways to serve our community are always welcome.
