August Group Ex Schedule

Our August Group Ex schedule is now available. Please be aware of several changes that will be occurring throughout the month.

All Essentrics classes are cancelled through August 7 as instructors Jill and Carolyn are on vacation.

Tuesday morning Yoga, 10-11am with Theresa, is now Relax and Restore Yoga.
Relax and restore your mind & body with traditional yoga poses and breathing that will help increase flexibility, release tension and improve range of motion. All levels are welcome. Please bring a mat.

A Relax and Restore Yoga class has been added 11am-12pm Monday, August 1 and Friday, August 5. (Cassie Conti instructs Monday class, Deanna Pochapin instructs Friday.)
Gymnasium floor being refinished the week of August 15.
Expect classes that usually take place in the Dunlap Family Gymnasium to be moved. See class descriptions in Mindbody or visit the welcome desk upon arriving.

Reserve your spot in Mindbody (app) starting at midnight two days before the start of your live or virtual class. Registration closes 30 minutes before the start of each class.


Celebrate the Center with Us September 17

Join family, friends, colleagues and area businesses 7-10pm Saturday, September 17 for our Celebrate the Center fundraiser.
This annual community celebration draws hundreds to enjoy a night of fine food, music and libations while supporting a community resource for wellness, learning, growth and discovery.

Tickets are $100 per person and include all food & drink. Proceeds raised help expand our offerings, bring new programs into our neighborhoods and ensure the Lauri Ann West Community Center is here for years to come.

Specialty Summer Camps Still Available

If you’re a busy parent looking for activities for your child, consider one of the Lauri Ann West Community Center’s remaining partial-day Specialty Camps.

The following camps are available August 8-12:

Little Designer Printmaking Camp (ages 7-11)
August 8-12; 1-4pm
$175 members ($195 non-members)
Campers will discover a variety of different printmaking processes and create their very own designs. Children will also print their own designs onto clothing using a silkscreen.

PBT: Fairies in Ballet (ages 4-7)
August 8-12; 9-11am
$195 members ($215 non-members)
Young dancers will develop the foundations of ballet technique, engage in thematic arts & crafts and learn a story through movement. A culminating performance will be held at the end of the week.

Gear-up for Cruisin’ at the Community Center August 14

We’re gearing-up for our inaugural Cruisin’ at the Community Center taking place 12-5pm Sunday, August 14.

Presented by the legendary Chip Ganassi Racing, guests can expect more than 80 vehicles showcased at this classic pull-up and park car cruise. Antique, custom, sports, muscle, luxury models, in-progress cars and more will all be featured.

Even if you aren’t an auto-aficionado, stop by and enter one of our exciting raffles including a 50/50, selection of car care products, gift card package from local restaurants, a Huffy 16” Rock It Boys Sidewalk Bike and a special “for the ladies” basket.

Food trucks are also part of this family-friendly event and will overlap in two-hour windows. Aspinwall Everyday Gourmet Café will have a pop-up tent with additional gourmet food options.
Admission is free.

Community News

Second Harvest Community Free Fridge Now Open
The Lauri Ann West Community Center is proud to partner with our friends at Second Harvest Community Thrift Store of Sharpsburg as a drop-off location to provide items for their new Community Free Fridge.

Now open Second Harvest (624 Clay St., Sharpsburg), the community fridge will be stocked with everything to help our neighbors in need including fresh produce, homemade leftovers, frozen foods and restaurant surpluses. There will also be a pantry for non-perishable goods as well as non-food items like sanitary products, baby formula and pet supplies. The fridge will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.

Drop-off bins will be available at the welcome desk or by Aspinwall Everyday Gourmet Café.

Sharpsburg Family Worship Center Providing Free Resources for Students August 9
The Sharpsburg Family Worship Center is hosting a Back-to-School Block Party 6-8pm Tuesday, August 9.

The event features free backpacks, school supplies, haircuts, food, games and more for all children in K-12

Aspinwall’s Big Night Out is August 11
Aspinwall’s Big Night Out takes place 6-9pm Thursday, August 11 on the Aspinwall Baseball Fields. The event brings neighbors together for a celebration of community and in support of local organizations.

Attractions and activities include live music performances by Riverfront Theater Co, Art in Motion and Young Brothers Tae Kwon Do, free samples from local restaurants, a glass blowing demonstration, games for kids, a 50/50 raffle and much more.
