Here is what’s happening at the Community Center the week of February 22:

  • New youth spin class starts Feb. 27
  • More open pickleball hours starting Mar. 1
  • Summer camp volunteers needed!
  • Spring break camp Mar. 29 – Apr. 2
  • Mr. Wade’s Maker Studio class

New Youth Spin Class – Saturdays at 9am starting Feb. 27

This class is free to all family fitness members ages 11-13. Children must be at least 4’10” in order to safely fit the spin bikes. This class is held at the same time as Theresa’s Tabata class in the gymnasium, so you and your kids can take a class at the same time!

Class will be taught by Cassie Conti, who has been teaching spin for 5+ years, including on Saturday at the Center since June. This class is a great choice if you’re looking for a way to get your kids excited about fitness. It’s easy to learn and suitable for all body types and fitness levels. This class will mix 30 minutes of spin with 15 minutes of strength exercises.

Registration: Call our welcome desk at 412-828-8566 on the day of class and provide the name and age of each child. A parent on the membership must come inside to drop-off and pick-up.

Safety: Masks required at all times. Please send a water bottle, use the restroom, and wash hands before class.

Open Pickleball Hours Added

Starting March 1 we are adjusting the Open Pickleball schedule to offer some additional playing time each week. The new schedule will be:

Monday 1:30-3pm
Tuesday 12:30-2pm
Wednesday 12:30-2pm
Friday 12-1:30pm
Sunday 9:15-11:15am

Summer Camp Volunteers Needed

We’re looking for fun, energetic, and responsible volunteers to help with summer camps at the Community Center from June 7th-August 16th. Volunteers will be working with children ages 3 to12 in a variety of settings, including:

  • Assisting with activities
  • Helping with snack and lunch times
  • Assisting with daily check-in/check-out
  • Helping with room sanitizing throughout the day

This is a great way to earn your community service hours or build your resume for future work opportunities! All CDC protocols will be followed. Must be able to volunteer on a consistent schedule for hours/weeks/days assigned.

Questions or to apply: Contact Jason Fate at 412-828-8566 ext. 103 or jfate@lauriannwestcc.org. Click here for an application.

Spring Break Camp – March 29-April 2

We have just a few spots left in our Spring Break Camp. Instead of sitting in front of screens all day, send your kids to the Center for games in the gym, learning in the Maker Studio, and as much time outside as possible! Camp will be held from 8:30am-4:30pm, March 29-April 2. Learn more and register

Mr. Wade’s Maker Studio Class

Mr. Wade has been working in youth programs at the Center since before we even opened our new doors five years ago. He’s the master of our Maker Studio and is always creating STEAM lessons that spark curiosity, experimentation, and discovery. Read Wade’s full bio here.

Mr. Wade has a new 4-week after school class starting March 9 to guide kids in simple machines, flight exploration, spy crafting, and cardboard construction. Kids will meet every Tuesday in our Maker Studio to learn while also having a lot of fun. Plus, busing is provided from FCASD schools! His classes are always a hit and space is limited for social distancing. Grab a spot soon! Learn more and register
