Celebrate the Lauri Ann West Community Center with Friends, Family and Area Businesses September 17

Tickets are on sale now for Celebrate the Center (CTC), taking place 7-10pm Saturday, September 17.

This annual community celebration and highly-anticipated social event draws hundreds to our picturesque hilltop terrace to enjoy a night of fine food, music and libations while supporting a community resource for wellness, learning, growth and discovery.

In addition to a great time, Celebrate the Center will help to raise important funds to sustain our programs, support community outreach, and ensure that the Center is thriving for years to come.

Tickets are $100 per person and include all food & drink. Patron sponsorships are also available.

July 13 Wine Wednesday Features Acoustic Trio John Vento, Bob Zigerelli and Cherylann Hawk

Join us 6-8pm Wednesday, July 13 on the Scott Family Patio for our next Wine Wednesday.

Bring your favorite wine or other adult beverage and spend a summer evening in good company. Charcuterie boats and assorted appetizers will be available to purchase from Aspinwall Everyday Gourmet Café.

Music for the evening will include an acoustic performance by trio John Vento, Bob Zigerelli and Cherylann Hawk.

Guests can bring their own camp chairs or reserve a spot at a table.

Stretching Before Exercise Workshop
2-4pm Friday, July 15
Free (Please pre-register)

Learn about the importance of stretching before doing any kind of exercise to avoid injury and undue strain. There will be a presentation and a demonstration, as well as a chance for everyone to get up and get moving!

The workshop is part of the Mindy, Body & Spirit series presented by the Cooper-Siegel Community Library and Lauri Ann West Community Center.

East Coast Swing Workshop
1-3pm Saturday, July 16
$35 ($45 non-members)

Join instructor Lisa Tamres for this one-day workshop that will cover the basics of this fun social dance including leading and following dance techniques, along with several fun dance moves. Students will rotate partners during the workshop to share knowledge. Class is suitable for ages 13 & up. Register here.

Spaces Remain for July 25-29 Volleyball Camp

Spaces remain for the Lauri Ann West Community Center’s July 25-29 Volleyball Camp. Camp meets 1-4pm.

This fun skills clinic for children grades 5-8 will focus on basic volleyball techniques including proper platform movement, footwork, ball receiving, beginnings of overhand serving, setting and at-the-net work.

Cost is $185 members ($205 non-members). Register here.

Little Designer Printmaking Camp is August 8-12 for Ages 7-11

Campers will discover a variety of different printmaking processes and create their very own designs while learning the printmaking process step-by-step. By the end of camp, children will be able to print their own designs onto clothing using a silkscreen!

Cooper-Siegel Community Library Hosts Relaxing the Body and Mind Workshop July 12

Discover holistic techniques to support calming your nervous system, relaxing your mind and feeling more comfortable in your body 6:30-8:30pm Tuesday, July 12, at the Cooper-Siegel Community Library.

Learn and practice centering and grounding exercises, clearing the mind of stressful thoughts, working with breath and acupoints (tapping) to calm and attune the nervous system, and engaging in gentle, subtle movements to enhance feelings of wellbeing.

Event is part of the Cooper-Siegel Community Library’s and Lauri Ann West Community Center’s Mind, Body & Spirit Series.

Riverfront Theater Company Young Artists to Present XANADU August 3-6

Riverfront Theater Company’s Young Artists will transport audiences back to the 80s when their production of XANADU skates into Allegheny River Trail Park (285 River Ave,

Pittsburgh) on August 3–6, 2022.

XANADU is a Tony Award®-nominated, hilarious, roller-skating, musical adventure about following your dreams. This production is based on the Universal Pictures cult classic movie of the same title, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.

Hillman Center Presents Latin American Children’s Musician Sonia De Los Santos July 15

The Hillman Center for Performing Arts at Shady Side Academy will present Latin American children’s musician Sonia De Los Santos 2pm Friday, July 15 under the tent on the Mary Hillman Jennings Plaza.

This family-friendly outdoor concert is free of charge and no tickets are required. (Event will take place rain or shine.)
