Here is what’s new at the Community Center the week of October 4:

  • Our new Statement of Values
  • Staff Member Update
  • November Speaker Series with Kathleen Kennedy Townsend
  • Breast Cancer Awareness Month Project

Our new Statement of Values

You may have noticed some new signs and staff shirts at the Center recently. Over the summer, the Community Center’s board of directors unanimously adopted the organization’s new statement of values. We’re excited to share with you the following core beliefs that guide our culture, the way we operate, and how we treat our members and staff.

Collaboration: working actively together with others

Accepting: creating a safe place for everyone

Respect: appreciating & valuing our similarities & differences

Ethics: acting with honesty & integrity in all that we do

Service: making everyone feel welcome & appreciated

Staff Member Update

It’s with mixed emotions that we share the news that one of our trainers, Dante Yobbi, will be leaving the Community Center on October 13. Dante joined us as an intern 5 years ago and has grown to become an important part of our team.

Throughout our shutdown in 2020 Dante kept members going with daily workout videos and challenges. Over the past year he also started teaching youth group ex classes and ran our after school flag football program.

On behalf of everyone at the Center, we wish Dante good luck for the future and bid him a happy farewell. Please be sure to share your well wishes with Dante before the 13th!

November Speaker Series with Kathleen Kennedy Townsend

‘Living a Life of Community Service’ with Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, Sunday, November 14 at 4pm

Our first two Speaker Series events sold out – don’t miss this free event! The eldest of Robert and Ethel Kennedy’s eleven children, Kathleen grew up instilled with advice from her father that as the oldest of the next generation, she and her siblings had a particular responsibility … to be kind to others and work for their country. In addition to serving as the first woman Lt. Governor of Maryland from 1995 to 2003, Kathleen is the former Director of Retirement Security at the Economic Policy Institute. Kathleen will be sharing her experience on living a life of community service and sharing some stories about her legendary family. Click here to register.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Project

As you all know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  We would like to celebrate our breast cancer survivor members, recognize their courage, and share a little about what got them through when the going got tough.

If you are a breast cancer survivor and would like to share a small part of your story with our community, get in touch with Nadine at nfostrowski@laurianwestcc.org or 412-828-8566 x105.[/av_textblock][/av_one_full]
