Jessica Simms

Jessica Simms grew up in Pittsburgh’s Greenfield Neighborhood, attended Taylor Allderdice High school and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Carlow University. She  resides in O’Hara Township and is currently the PTO president at her children’s elementary school.

She left corporate America for the fitness industry after becoming a mother. With a passion for health and fitness, she now gets to lead people on their own journey. She advocates to “never miss a Monday” and that by starting your fitness routine at the beginning of the week, you’ll be more likely to stick with it.

Jessica currently heads-up SilverSneakers and is certified in Personal Training, Nutrition Coaching, Spinning and Group Exercise.

Summer Camp Registration

Registration for Half-Day Specialty Camps Opens Feb. 22

Registration for our half-day specialty summer camps will open Tuesday, February 22 at Noon.

Specialty camps at the Lauri Ann West Community Center provide exciting experiences presented by our trusted partners including Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Mad Science, Little Medical School, Soccer Shots and more. Click here for listings.

Registration is also open for our traditional full-day camps for children ages 5-12 and half-day camps for pre-K with spots filling quickly.

What’s New at the Center

First Fitness Center School is Sat., Feb. 26

Join personal trainer Michael Marks 10-11am Saturday, February 26 for our first Fitness Center School.

Fitness Center School is a one-hour session that provides an overview of how to properly use fitness equipment. The class will also help participants structure their workout routine to achieve personal goals.

Register in Mindbody beginning two days in advance. Space is limited to four students. All equipment is provided and the service is free to all members.


Winter Programming

Final Days to Register for Winter Session II Classes

Registration for our winter session II JumpBunch children’s fitness classes and Soccer Shots begins closing on Wednesday, February 23 at 9pm.

JumpBunch classes keep children active with play, exploration, movement and the use of age-appropriate games and equipment. JumpBunch is available for children as young as 18 months (with a parent) through age 12.

Soccer Shoots is available for ages 2-8 and focuses on developing skills like dribbling, passing and shooting. Older students will be challenged through fun games and team interaction.

FCAHS Hosts Blood Drive Feb. 24

Fox Chapel Area High School will host a community blood drive from 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 24 in the large group instruction room. All people 16 and older are encouraged to donate blood. Read more here.

Master Gardeners Symposium Webinar is Feb. 26

Join the Penn State Master Gardeners of Allegheny County for the 26th Annual Garden and Landscape Symposium webinar February 26.

This premier educational horticultural event will enable you to get a jumpstart on your own beautiful and eco-friendly garden for next season. Hear from such experts as William Cullina, the Executive Director of the Morris Arboretum at the University of Pennsylvania; Sam Hoadley, the Manager of Horticultural Research at Mt. Cuba Center; and Margarita López-Uribe, Ph.D. an Assistant Professor of Entomology at Penn State University.
