What’s New at the Center

Outdoor Pickleball Courts Reserved Weekday Mornings for Members 

The outdoor pickleball courts will be reserved for Lauri Ann West Community Center members 8-11am, Monday-Friday.

Nets will be setup and ready for play. No pre-registration is required.

Inaugural Cruisin’ at the Community Center Set for August 14

Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 14 for the Lauri Ann West Community Center’s inaugural Cruisin’ at the Community Center.

Event takes place 12-5pm and is presented by the legendary Chip Ganassi Racing.

Guests can expect more than 80 vehicles showcased at this classic pull-up and park car cruise. Antique, custom, sports, muscle, luxury models, in-progress cars and more will all be featured. Trucks are also welcome.

Raffles, including a 50/50, and food trucks are also part of this family event.

Admission is free. There is also no fee to park and show your vehicle. While there is no competition/prizes, dash plaques will be given to the first 100 participating vehicles.

New Classes

East Coast Swing Workshop and Mah Jongg Classes Offered in July

Take up a new hobby at the Lauri Ann West Community Center by joining us for an East Coast Swing Dancing workshop or Mah Jongg classes.

East Coast Swing Workshop
1-3pm Saturday, July 16
$35 ($45 non-members)
Join instructor Lisa Tamres for this one-day workshop that will cover the basics of this fun social dance including leading and following dance techniques, along with several fun dance moves. Students will rotate partners during the workshop to share knowledge. Class is suitable for ages 13 & up.

Mah Jongg for Beginners
Meets 1-3pm Wednesdays beginning July 13 for 3 weeks
$125 ($145 non-members)
Learn the basics of this fun and social game developed in 19th century China which has gained popularity worldwide. Students will learn rules, object of the game, tile symbols, winning hands, the use of suits, dealing and more. Class is suitable for ages 12 & up.

Youth Soccer Classes Begin July 12

Introduce your child to the exciting game of soccer while giving them a foundation to advance in the sport.

Soccer Shots at the Lauri Ann West Community Center teaches children fundamental soccer principles such as footwork, dribbling, teamwork and basic rules in a developmentally appropriate manner.

Six-week classes for children ages 2-5 begin Tuesday, July 12.

Cooper-Siegel Community Library Hosts Relaxing the Body and Mind Workshop July 12

Discover holistic techniques to support calming your nervous system, relaxing your mind and feeling more comfortable in your body 6:30-8:30pm Tuesday, July 12, at the Cooper-Siegel Community Library.

Learn and practice centering and grounding exercises, clearing the mind of stressful thoughts, working with breath and acupoints (tapping) to calm and attune the nervous system, and engaging in gentle, subtle movements to enhance feelings of wellbeing.

Event is part of the Cooper-Siegel Community Library’s and Lauri Ann West Community Center’s Mind, Body & Spirit Series.

Hillman Center Presents Latin American Children’s Musician Sonia De Los Santos July 15

The Hillman Center for Performing Arts at Shady Side Academy will present Latin American children’s musician Sonia De Los Santos 2pm Friday, July 15 under the tent on the Mary Hillman Jennings Plaza.

This family-friendly outdoor concert is free of charge and no tickets are required. (Event will take place rain or shine.)

The Fox Chapel Area School District will host a hiring event 10am-3pm Tuesday, July 19.

The School District is looking for substitute paraprofessionals, custodians, secretaries, nurses and cafeteria workers. A representative from Precision HR will be on-site.
