A Note on Our March Group Ex Schedule

The flooring project in the Alexander Family Community Room is near completion. We expect Group Ex classes to return to their regular locations and schedules on Wednesday, March 16.

Please check Mindbody for the schedule for Monday, March 14 and Tuesday, March 15. You can also refer to our events calendar.

Tuesday evening Power Yoga (7-8pm with Becca) will be cancelled on March 15. Check out her other class that meets 8-9am on Fridays.

We’re also pleased to add two new permanent Group Ex classes beginning the second half of March. A Spin and Essentrics class have been added Tuesday mornings. Pop-up Essentrics classes have also been added on select Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Instructor/Trainer Spotlight: Theresa Wright

Theresa is the youngest of four, born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin. Those who know her will not be surprised that she has always been active and involved in competitive sports.

She was recruited by Mississippi State University out of high school and played middle hitter for the women’s volleyball team. In 2004, Theresa and her husband Marc moved to Pittsburgh with their young family to begin her fitness journey.

Theresa’s passion, excitement and endless energy can be attributed to: “my amazing clients and the members that I have the privilege of working with every day,” she says.

Theresa wears several hats at the Center. She serves as a full-time trainer, group exercise instructor and the group exercise manager.

Makers’ League Workshops Return March 19 & 26

Makers’ League Saturday workshops are back at the Lauri Ann West Community Center. Children ages 7-12 are invited to join instructor Wade Kramm to explore how everyday objects can be turned into extraordinary things! These hands-on workshops incorporate STEM concepts and develop children’s problem-solving skills.

Two new workshops are upcoming in March including Action Origami (March 19) and Rubber Band Power (March 26).

Half-Day Specialty Camps Offer Experiences in Soccer, Art, Performing Arts and More

Half-day specialty camps at the Lauri Ann West Community Center offer unique experiences led by our trusted community partners.

Children are invited to explore topics in performing arts, ballet, chemistry, robots, outdoor adventure, medical care, printmaking, soccer and more. These week-long camps meet conveniently in the mornings or afternoons. Click here to view topics and weeks.

Explore the Beauty of American Sign Language with Sharon Serbin

Learn and explore the beauty of American Sign Language (ASL) with instructor Sharon Serbin. Class begins Monday, April 4 and meets from 6:15-8:15pm for 8 weeks.

The course will focus on themes such as emotions, questions words, verbs, food, people, clothing and more. A new theme will be explored each week.

Sharon grew up with gradual hearing loss, accumulating in full deafness by age 18. A natural teacher, she spent years teaching at various schools and has a strong background working with children. She is also a communications assessor, communications specialist, artist, creative drama specialist, fitness instructor and motivational public speaker.

Her approach to teaching ASL includes incorporating humor, games and creative drama into each class to encourage participation with hands-on learning.

Class is appropriate for ages 15 & up.

Fee is $150 (members) and $180 (non-members). Register online today. Space is limited.

O’Hara Foxes Club (OFC) Announces Spring Programs

Registration for the O’Hara Foxes Club’s spring programs is now open. OFC is a series of after school enrichment activities coordinated by the O’Hara PTO. Current offerings are outlined below.

Art Party is open to grades 3-5 and takes place 3:40-4:40pm Mondays, March 28; April 4, 18 & 25 and May 2. Fee is $50.

Run Club is open to grades K-5 and meets 3:40-4:40pm Wednesdays, March 30; April 6, 20 & 27 and May 4. This is a free program.

Registration Open for St. Margaret Foundation Hope Challenge

Registration is now open for the St. Margaret Foundation Brian Demchak Hope Challenge presented by PNC. This “your way” event is from May 15-21.

Run-Bike-Walk-Swim-Play Racket Sports for those who can’t. Choose your own route outside, on a treadmill, dance floor, or in a pool to complete a virtual 5K at 3.1 miles or a distance you prefer. Each participant receives a race shirt and A FINISHER’S MEDAL in the mail. Fundraise and receive a cooler backpack, too.

Lauri Ann West Community Center Hosts Young Life March 18

We’re proud to host Fox Chapel Young Life 7-8pm Friday, March 18 in the Alexander Family Community Room.

Young Life provides an opportunity for kids to be kids while learning what life is about. At Young Life events, kids are invited to follow Christ in a safe place where they are cared for regardless of their response, and change lives in the process.

All middle school students are welcome!

Registration Open for Spin Your Wheels

Registration is now open for Spin Your Wheels 2022, a fitness-based fundraiser for Riding for the Handicapped of Western PA. This year’s event will take place 8am-5pm Saturday, April 23 at the scenic Allegheny RiverTrail Park in Aspinwall.

Created in 2015, Spin Your Wheels offers a variety of group exercise and cycling classes. The Lauri Ann West Community Center is proud to be part of the event with two classes led by our instructors. Cassie Conti will lead a Spin Class from 10:30-11:15am. Theresa Wright will lead Full Body Strength, also from 10:30-11:15am. Click here for the full schedule.

Food, refreshments, music, wellness services, entertainment and more are also part of the fun. Spin Your Wheels is a family-friendly event and welcomes individuals of all abilities to participate.
